The Guanyin Pavilion Tea House
This ancient tea house in Pengzhen, Chengdu is one of the few remaining Sichuan-style tea houses that reflect life in a bygone age. An understated ramshackle exterior with no signage, a cobbled floor that looks to date back to the middle ages, simple bamboo furniture and traditional metal tea pots heated on a traditional charcoal stove. The charm and culture of the tea house is both intoxicating and overwhelming. The predominantly male and middle-aged plus clientele simply sit there from approximately 5am to 11am every day to talk, play cards and smoke tobacco(?) in small pipes.
