Phil Melia is an award-winning photographer and educator with a lifetime of industry experience. His specialist knowledge spans over two decades of analogue photography, two decades of digital practice, plus Master’s degrees in both documentary photography and a postgraduate certificate of education. His work has been published in both The Portrait of Britain and Portrait of Humanity Awards as well as the Lecia Fotografie International Gallery. Phil has also held numerous exhibitions and currently has three self-published books to his name.

Phil has worked on commissions extensively throughout the UK, as well as worldwide locations including the USA, the Caribbean, Italy, France, Germany and China. Over time, he has developed his own unique approach of applying his extensive commercial and his industrial photography experience with that of his documentary practice to create empathic visual representation for issue-based stories, with an organic visual narrative. This approach stays true to the ethos of documentary photography and can be applied with great effect in advertising campaigns.

In addition, Phil is also passing on his vast industry knowledge and experience to the next generation of photographers in his role as Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Photography and Moving Image programme at the University Centre in Blackburn.

Should you have a project either here in the UK, or any other part of the world, that would benefit from powerful, narrative led photography, please get in touch with Phil for a no obligation chat.
